How to choose the right dumpster size
Choosing the right dumpster is simple when you focus on these four things.
- Consider your project type Small cleanouts need smaller dumpsters, while renovations and construction jobs usually require larger ones.
- Estimate the amount of debris If it's more than a few pickup truck loads, you'll likely need a mid-size or larger dumpster.
- Know your materials Bulky items like furniture take up space quickly, while heavy materials like concrete or roofing shingles add weight. Choosing the right size helps avoid extra fees.
- When in doubt, size up Going one size up can save you time, money, and the hassle of needing a second dumpster.

Dumpster size FAQs
What dumpster sizes do you offer?
Snappy rents four roll-off sizes: 10-yard ($375, 1 ton included), 15-yard ($425, 1.5 tons), 20-yard ($450, 2 tons) and 30-yard ($650, 3 tons). Every rental includes delivery, pickup and 7 days.
What are the dimensions of each dumpster?
Approximately: 10-yard 12 ft L × 8 ft W × 4 ft H; 15-yard 12 × 8 × 5.5 ft; 20-yard 14 × 8 × 6 ft; 30-yard 16 × 8 × 7 ft. Our fleet includes straight-wall and tub-style containers, so exact measurements vary slightly by unit, but the cubic-yard capacity is the same.
Is a 20-yard dumpster 20 feet long?
No. The number is the volume in cubic yards, not the length. A 20-yard holds 20 cubic yards (540 cubic feet) and is roughly 14 ft long.
How many cubic feet is each size?
One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, so a 10-yard holds 270 cubic feet, a 15-yard 405, a 20-yard 540 and a 30-yard 810.
Which dumpster size is most popular?
The 20-yard. About two out of three Snappy orders in 2026 were 20-yards, because it handles most renovations, roof tear-offs and whole-garage cleanouts for only $25 more than a 15-yard.
What size dumpster do I need for a roof?
A 20-yard covers an average single-layer roof. Shingles are heavy, so watch the 2 tons included; extra weight is $95 per ton, billed to the hundredth of a ton.
Which size fits in my driveway?
The 10 and 15-yard sit on a roughly 12-ft footprint and fit most driveways. The 20-yard needs about 14 ft and the 30-yard about 16 ft, plus room for our truck to back in straight and no low wires or branches overhead.
What happens if I go over the included weight?
Nothing changes on pickup. Any weight over the included tonnage is $95 per ton, billed to the hundredth of a ton after we dump the load, so you only pay for what you use.
Can I keep the dumpster longer than 7 days?
Yes. Keep it as long as you need for $15 per additional day.
Can I get a dumpster today?
Yes. Call or text 704-690-4445 by 10 AM and same-day delivery is guaranteed within 30 miles of our Monroe yard. Online orders can be scheduled for tomorrow or later.
